Filmmakers notes on this edit...

The first edit was a bit tricky as we wanted to create these two worlds for the teacher and her son but also wanted to get the panic of the situation as far as the adults where concerned. It was always a fine line between creating pace and a sense of panic through the quickness of the edit without it becoming too choppy and distracting for the viewer. The other big decision in the edit process was how much do we show of the home life with the dog and the boy as a counterpoint to the dancing of the nursery rhyme. In the end for the sake of brevity we left on the cutting room floor most of the dog shots as what seemed to work better as a cut was the wooden playful fighting at the grandparents with the nursery rhyme movement, both had similar energy and an almost circular motion so seemed to work well together. They also counterpointed the stillness of the adults at the end just before impact and reinforced the feeling that the children are oblivious of what is about to happen.
